Maybe it\u2019s because Lee Cronin\u2019s The Mummy<\/em> now seems destined to fade quickly from theaters and filmgoers\u2019 memories. Or maybe it\u2019s because Halloween is generally more monster-friendly than late spring. But Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz\u2018s eagerly awaited reunion in the fourth Mummy<\/em> movie will be arriving several months earlier than originally announced. Its new date is October 15, 2027.<\/p>\n

The Mummy 4<\/em>\u2014no official title yet\u2014had originally been slated to come out May 19, 2028; as Variety reports, that slot will now be filled by the Miami Vice \u201985<\/em> team-up of Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler.<\/p>\n

The latest entry in the Mummy<\/em> franchise, which kicked off in 1999 with the hit co-starring John Hannah, who\u2019ll also return, is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, also known as Radio Silence. Their previous output skews a bit more splattery horror than the swashbuckling Mummy<\/em> series to date, though it does have its share of \u201cscarabs devouring live humans\u201d and the like.<\/p>\n

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett\u2019s most recent release was Ready or Not 2: Here I Come<\/em>; they also made Scream<\/em> and Scream VI<\/em>, Abigail<\/em>, the original Ready or Not<\/em>, and a segment in the first V\/H\/S<\/em> anthology.<\/p>\n

So far there are no details on what plotlines the fourth Mummy<\/em> movie might explore, beyond the inevitable exploring of creepy burial chambers and whatever evolutions Rick and Evelyn O\u2019Connell\u2019s relationship has gone through. But with the release date moved up, we can probably expect to start learning more sooner than later.<\/p>\n
