Tim Daly<\/strong> may have played government-related figures on TV, but don\u2019t expect that to translate into his real life.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely not,\u201d Daly, 70, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Thursday, April 23, ahead of The Creative Coalition\u2019s annual Night Before Dinner, when asked whether he has political aspirations. \u201cIt\u2019s funny, every time I come to DC, people ask me if I would be interested. I think that\u2019s because I look okay on camera, and I have some modest intelligence, and I can say a few sentences without asking what the words mean.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daly, who serves as the president of the nonprofit focused on federal arts funding, journalism support and free speech through its #RightToBearArts campaign, said that he doesn\u2019t have the \u201cpatience\u201d to be in politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s slow, and it\u2019s messy, and you have to be patient and persistent. That said, I have come back every year with The Creative Coalition to defend and protect the National Endowment for the Arts, because what I\u2019ve come to understand is that part of politics or part of policy is doing the same thing over and over and over again. There\u2019s always someone that loves what you do, and there\u2019s always someone that hates what you do, and you gotta get out there and try to convince the haters that you\u2019re okay,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019s against celebrities throwing their hat into the campaign ring.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been a lot of actors who\u2019ve been elected to office, Ronald Reagan<\/strong>, Clint Eastwood<\/strong>, Sonny Bono<\/strong>, Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/strong>, Fred Thompson<\/strong>. You can argue about if they did a good job or not, but they had something that people responded to. And I think that if an actor comes along and they\u2019re smart and they understand the country and the Constitution, they should give it a shot if they want to,\u201d Daly said. \u201cThere\u2019s a small number of people who are really great and should be given a chance to be public servants. And I don\u2019t care what their former job was, if they\u2019re smart and they\u2019re dedicated and they understand the Constitution, because that, after all, is what politicians are supposed to be defending.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Wings<\/em> alum isn\u2019t just focusing on politics; he\u2019s also prioritizing his marriage to T\u00e9a Leoni<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

\u201cI have a belief that one of the things that helps marriages stay alive and vital, crackly and sexy, is not talking about them to the press,\u201d Daly shared, noting the irony. \u201cT\u00e9a and I made a vow when we decided to get married that if it changed our relationship, we were going to get divorced in a hot minute and go back because it was so good. But the truth is, it\u2019s even better now. We really love it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTyne Daly shared some insight on why she wasn\u2019t in attendance for her brother Tim Daly\u2019s wedding to T\u00e9a Leoni. \u201cThere was a small wedding. Very exclusive, very, very private,\u201d Tyne, 79, said in an interview with People on Saturday, August 16, adding that Tim, 69, and Leoni\u2019s nuptials took place at their \u201cbeautiful apartment [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The pair began dating in 2014 while playing husband and wife on Madam Secretary<\/em> and finally tied the knot in July 2025 in an intimate family gathering. Despite his sister, Tyne Daly<\/strong>, claiming the couple was planning a larger ceremony at a later date, the actor told Us<\/em> that\u2019s not true.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what the hell my sister\u2019s talking about. She\u2019s just made something up, just to tell somebody so, that\u2019s the first I\u2019ve heard of it,\u201d Daly responded.<\/p>\n

Daly previously shared that he fell head over heels for Leoni, 60, \u201cfour minutes\u201d after meeting her on Madam Secretary<\/em>. Daly and Leoni, 60, played husband and wife Henry and Elizabeth McCord in the political drama, which aired for six seasons from September 2014 to December 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, she looked at me, and she saw me. She just saw right into me, and it scared the hell out of me, actually, because all my defenses and walls came crashing down. And there I was vulnerable and caught on her tractor beam,\u201d he told Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Daly said the spark is still alive after all these years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t even understand. I\u2019m crazy about her. It\u2019s wild,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The newlywed shared his hopes for life\u2019s next chapter after turning 70 last month.<\/p>\n
