\n\tUPDATE:<\/strong> The 2026 White House Correspondents Dinner has been canceled after a shooting tonight. <\/p>\n

\n\tDespite posting earlier that he wanted the event to \u201cgo on,\u201d Donald Trump has consented to the wishes of the Secret Service and has exited the Washington Hilton.<\/p>\n

\n\tPOTUS intends to deliver remarks from the White House in a press conference soon, WHCA boss and CBS News correspondent Weijia Jiang told the remaining guests at the First Amendment celebrating event. <\/p>\n

\n\tTrump wants the WHCD rescheduled \u201cin the next 30 days,\u201d Jiang told the crowd to huge applause. \u201cWe will do this again. Thank you.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tStating that \u201cthe First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition,\u201d POTUS posted the news of his upcoming briefing too: <\/p>\n

\n\tThe vast ballroom has emptied quickly \u2013 with many of the media and WHCA members likely heading to the White House. Law enforcement confirm at least one \u201cindividual is in custody.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHappening live on C-SPAN and other cable newsers that cover the annual WHCD on Trump\u2019s first appearance before the suited and booted journalist crowd as POTUS, the incident saw Secret Service and others running to the stage to haul the \u00a0dignitaries out of harm\u2019s way. At the dinner, Deadline\u2019s Ted Johnson detailed what \u201csounded like four shots, and it seemed to come from the hall just outside the ballroom near my table.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPREVIOUSLY, 6:35 PM: <\/strong>Donald Trump insists the White House Correspondents Dinner should \u201cgo on,\u201d despite shots being fired tonight at the event. <\/p>\n

\n\tCalling it \u201cQuite an evening in D.C.,\u201d the evacuated POTUS praised \u201cSecret Service and Law Enforcement\u201d for a \u201cfantastic job.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBelieved to still be in a safe room in the Washington Hilton, Trump posted online: \u201cThey acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we \u201cLET THE SHOW GO ON\u201d but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we\u2019ll just, plain, have to do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhite House Correspondents Association president Weijia Jiang has said from the stage that the program will \u201cresume shortly.\u201d There have been mixed signals if the Secret Service want guests to leave the huge hotel ballroom. Attendees dropped to the floor when shots rang out soon after Trump and the First Lady had enter the room.Some have now left, some have stayed.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe presidential seal has been taken off the podium, which might say it all of what happens next. <\/p>\n
