Obama called on all Americans \u201cto reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHe also called the incident \u201ca sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Although we don\u2019t yet have the details about the motives behind last night&#8217;s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it\u2019s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy. It\u2019s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Barack Obama (@BarackObama) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BarackObama\/status\/2048511290021237017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 26, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn a press conference after the incident last night Trump, in prepared remarks, also praised the \u201cgreat work done by law enforcement.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHe went on to ask for unity, saying, \u201cin light of this evening\u2019s events, I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts in resolving our difference peacefully. We have to resolve our differences. I will say you had Republicans, Democrats, independents, conservatives, liberals and progressives\u2026But yet everybody in that room\u2026there was a tremendous amount of love and coming together. I watched, I watched and I was very, very impressed by that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTrump stressed the spirit of the event, which celebrates the White House Press Corps and the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThis was an event dedicated to freedom of speech. That was supposed to bring together members of both parties with members of the press. And in a certain way it did because the The fact that they just unified. I saw a room that was just totally unified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAfter his prepared remarks, the president was a little more colorful, calling the incident \u201cshocking\u201d and the shooter a \u201cnutjob.\u201d He then maintained the violence is a sign he\u2019s an effective chief executive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWhen you are impactful they go after you, when you are not impactful they leave you alone,\u201d POTUS said of the violence Saturday and previous assassination\u00a0 attempts against him over the years. \u201cIt\u2019s a dangerous profession.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><br \/>\n<br \/><a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Barack Obama issued a statement today after the shooting last night at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner in which an armed assailant apparently tried to get to President Trump and other administration officials.
