\n\tNedra Talley Ross, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and the last surviving member of the \u201960s-era pop group The Ronettes has died, according to a post on the group\u2019s Facebook page. She was 80.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIt is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Nedra Talley Ross\u2019 passing. She was a light to those who knew and loved her,\u201d the post began. \u201cAs a founding member of The Ronettes, along with her beloved cousins Ronnie and Estelle, Nedra\u2019s voice, style and spirit helped define a sound that would change music. Her contribution to the group\u2019s story and their defining influence will live forever\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tBorn Nedra Yvonne Talley, she and her cousins Veronica \u201cRonnie\u201d Bennett and Estelle Bennett were raised in Spanish Harlem, where they sang at Bar Mitzvahs and school dances as The Darling Sisters.<\/p>\n
\n\tThey teamed up with producer Phil Spector in 1963 and were renamed The Ronettes. The following year, the group released its only studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica<\/em>. During that time, the Rolling Stones opened for the Ronettes when they toured the UK. Two years later, the Ronettes opened for the Beatles in the U.S. They broke up shortly thereafter. <\/p>\n
\n\tNedra then married her boyfriend Scott Ross and changed her name to Nedra Talley Ross. Ronnie married Phil Spector and became Ronnie Spector.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Ronettes\u2019 best-known song, \u201cBe My Baby,\u201d spent three weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. The song \u2014 which the Beach Boys\u2019 Brian Wilson famously has said is \u201cthe greatest record ever produced\u201d \u2014 was co-written by\u00a0Spector, whose intense \u201cWall of Sound\u201d production style is personified by the track.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tIt wasn\u2019t just Wilson who was a fan.<\/p>\n
\n\tMartin Scorsese made powerful use of the tune as the opening credits scene of his breakout film, Mean Streets<\/em>. The director also used the group\u2019s version of \u201cFrosty the Snowman\u201d in Goodfellas<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n
