Jeremy Podcast<\/em>, the eponymous hosts delved into Joseph\u2019s arrest, Josh\u2019s crimes, and the subculture that afflicts the family.<\/p>\n<p>Jinger offered a brief explanation of Bill Gothard, his IBLP \u201cmovement\u201d from many decades before she was born, and the \u201cdangerous\u201d environment it creates \u2014 especially for girls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of families were well-meaning when they entered that setting,\u201d she claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey thought, \u2018Okay, I\u2019m going to protect my family by putting up these very concrete rules for my kids to keep them safe, to keep them in,&#8217;\u201d Jinger explained.<\/p>\n<p>She continued: \u201c\u2018To have friends that are going to be identical to us, that will shield our kids from the outside world almost, and let them be a light to the nations.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Dangerous Theology Behind These Scandals | Ep. 92\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8_hbvi-UeNQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>What Jinger is referring to here is the belief that the IBLP cult and similar Christian fundamentalist sects push: total cultural isolation.<\/p>\n<p>Within these circles, there is a theological belief that the world has been supernaturally corrupted by the devil, and that isolating one\u2019s children from other ideas \u2014 including other children \u2014 can keep them spiritually pure.<\/p>\n<p>Mainstream Christianity generally acknowledges the idea that there are mechanisms for purifying oneself (though this varies, particularly between Protestants and Catholics) to meet their god\u2019s standards.<\/p>\n<p>(It is actually very normal for religions to both present non-physical problems and then provide remedies. Christianity\u2019s involves a concept of \u201csin\u201d and then methods of atonement.)<\/p>\n<p>It is morally wrong to isolate one\u2019s children from meeting their peers, preventing them from getting a real education or forming their own ideas.
