Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong> is opening up about her upcoming third album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love<\/em>! <\/p>\n The 23-year-old singer and actress is set to drop the new LP this summer, and in a new Cosmopolitan<\/em> cover feature, she dished on the new music and how writing it was different than her last two albums. <\/p>\n \u201cWe really edited the hell out of this album. There was so much more joy in the songwriting,\u201d she told the mag. \u201cThere are some songs that are plain old sad but also some songs that are just plain old fun.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe didn\u2019t have time for revisions on\u00a0SOUR<\/em>. The whole world was watching. I wrote and we just fucking recorded and put it out. Then with\u00a0GUTS<\/em>, I was under so much pressure, like, \u2018Oh my god,\u00a0I\u2019m never going to be able to make another good song.\u2019 It wasn\u2019t even making music to make music. It was making music to please people or prove something,\u201d she said about the songwriting process. \u201cWith this album, I actually was like, \u2018I\u2019m done with the sophomore one. Now I can have fun again.\u2019 I was writing songs the way I did when I was 16, purely for fun. There were some beautiful moments, like, \u2018Whoa, it\u2019s flowing out,\u2019 which feels like catching a butterfly in a net.\u201d<\/p>\n Olivia<\/strong> also touched on whether she finds it harder to write about happiness and if it\u2019s cringe to be happy or sad. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not hard to do when I\u2019m sitting there by myself in my room, but it was never the stuff that I put out. Sometimes I listen back to it and I cringe\u2026.It\u2019s cringier to be happy. I cringe, but I\u2019m free,\u201d the \u201cDrop Dead\u201d singer shared. \u201cAll of my favorite love songs have an element of sadness, and that\u2019s what makes them so beautiful. A great love song has so much emotion behind it that it could go either way.
