Dakota Mortensen<\/strong><\/span>\u2019s attorneys are shining a light on the timing behind The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives<\/i><\/span> star\u2019s decision to file for a protective order against Taylor Frankie Paul<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy has he put up with this? Why did he wait so long to do anything?\u201d Dakota\u2019s attorney said in a court hearing on Thursday, April 30. \u201cThe answer is because he was afraid of the force that would happen against him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly<\/i> confirmed on March 19 that Dakota filed for a protective order<\/span> against his ex.<\/p>\n

Although the pair documented their ups and downs on their Hulu reality show in recent years, Dakota\u2019s attorney argued in court that an incident from February resulted in his client wanting to make a change.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, and I don\u2019t get to say this very often with male victims, but he\u2019s a domestic violence victim, your Honor,\u201d Dakota\u2019s attorney claimed. \u201cHe is coerced either through romantic interest or interests involving his son and with very charismatic tests, and very charismatic personality to come back and rejoin this romantic relationship until it blows up, again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lawyer continued, \u201cHe filed, actually, because of the most recent incident when he decided to break the cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n

At another point in court, Taylor\u2019s lawyer was able to speak and questioned Dakota\u2019s motives for his legal moves.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTaylor Frankie Paul is bolstering her defense against Dakota Mortensen amid their ongoing custody battle following an alleged domestic dispute earlier this year. Taylor, 31, claimed that Dakota, 33, sent her a \u201crequest for sex\u201d following their alleged February domestic violence altercation, according to an exhibit filed in court on Tuesday, April 7, seen by [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not just trying to come after her for custody. He\u2019s not just trying to seek a protective order,\u201d Taylor\u2019s attorney shared in court, which was livestreamed via ABC4 Utah<\/span>. \u201cHe wants to literally destroy her. He was to subject her and her family to a new round of torment. Yes, there are career implications to it. There\u2019s massive embarrassment associated with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his original court filing obtained by TMZ<\/span>, Dakota \u2014 who shares son Ever, 2, with Taylor \u2014 detailed the incidents that he claims went down on February 23 and February 24. He called the situation \u201cchaotic\u201d and \u201cfrightening\u201d and alleged that Taylor was \u201cemotionally volatile.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Draper City Police Department previously confirmed to Us <\/i>that there was an open \u201cdomestic assault investigation\u201d involving the former couple.<\/p>\n

On April 14, however, Us<\/i> confirmed through the district attorney that Taylor, 31, would not be charged in the case.<\/p>\n
