Jane Fonda <\/b>is clarifying her comments about Barbra Streisand<\/b>\u2019s Academy Awards tribute to the late Robert Redford.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s the only person I made four movies with, and would have done a lot more if I had the chance,\u201d Fonda, 88, said during the TCM Classic Film Festival on Thursday, April 30, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/i><\/span>. <\/i>\u201cI loved him and I deeply respect him, and they didn\u2019t ask me to do the Oscars.\u201d<\/p>\n

Redford died in September 2025 at the age of 89. Instead of Fonda, Streisand, 84, took to the stage to honor his legacy at the 2026 Oscars in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford,\u201d Fonda quipped to Entertainment Tonight<\/i><\/span> <\/i>later that month. \u201cShe only made one movie with him, I made four!\u201d<\/p>\n

Fonda and Redford costarred in Tall Story, The Chase, Barefoot in the Park, The Electric Horseman <\/i>and Our Souls at Night. <\/i>Streisand, meanwhile, acted opposite Redford in The Way We Were.<\/i><\/p>\n

During the Thursday event, Fonda stressed that her comments were made in jest.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought I was being funny, but actually I thought it was fabulous that they had Barbra out there because that was such an iconic movie and the song was so incredibly [moving],\u201d she said of Streisand and Redford\u2019s The Way We Were<\/i>. \u201cBob would have liked it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Streisand, who did not respond to Fonda\u2019s remarks, sang the two-time Oscar-winning film\u2019s title track<\/span> during the Oscars\u2019 In Memoriam segment.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter I read the first script of The Way We Were<\/i>, I could only imagine one man in the role and that was Robert Redford. But he turned it down because he said the character had no backbone,\u201d the EGOT winner added during the ceremony. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t stand for anything \u2014 and he was right. So many drafts later, Bob finally agreed to do it. He was a brilliant, subtle actor, and we had a wonderful time playing off each other because we never quite knew what the other one was going to do in a scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
