Their defining feature is progressive neuronal dysfunction and loss, resulting in cumulative motor, cognitive, and behavioural decline. For clinicians in both primary and specialist care, early awareness is increasingly recognised as central to effective management, reflecting a broader shift in how these conditions are conceptualised: not as late-stage clinical syndromes, but as long-evolving biological processes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The evolving model of neurodegeneration<br \/><\/strong>The traditional diagnostic model of neurodegenerative disease has been largely reactive, identifying disease at the point of overt clinical manifestation. However, advances in neuropathology, imaging, and biomarker research have demonstrated that the underlying disease processes begin many years\u2014often decades\u2014before diagnosis.
