\n\tAs a new filmmaker offering a new take on Leatherface more than 50 years after the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em>, Curry Barker recently teased his plans for the reboot.<\/p>\n \n\tThe YouTube comedian and filmmaker, who was announced as the writer and director of the upcoming reimagining last month, explained that he\u2019s intrigued by \u201cthe uncomfortability of the family\u201d that raised the chainsaw-wielding serial killer.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI think of it as respecting the source material,\u201d he told Total Film. \u201cI absolutely love the original film, but I want to do something that\u2019s different. I\u2019m not gonna stray away too far from what we know, but just making it stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBarker added, \u201cReally, I want to lean into the uncomfortability of the family. I want to lean into the rawness of what\u2019s going on there. There\u2019s some really messed up stuff happening at that farm. I genuinely feel there\u2019s so much potential for that concept that has not been realized.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tNoting that the 2003 Marcus Nisplel-helmed remake \u201cwas my favorite\u201d of the franchise, Barker recalled, \u201cIt was like my first horror movie I\u2019d ever seen when I was a kid, and I actually think it\u2019s a decent remake.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cStill, there\u2019s so much that that concept hasn\u2019t really leaned into or hasn\u2019t dived [into],\u201d said Barker. \u201cSo, I actually feel like there\u2019s a lot to explore, so I\u2019m really excited about it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLast month, Deadline reported that Barker has been tapped to write and direct the Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em> reimagining from A24 (seperate from the studio\u2019s TV series in the works from JT Mollner and producers Glen Powell and Dan Cohen at Barnstorm).<\/p>\n
