AEW Wrestler Diagnosed With ALS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\">AEW wrestler <b>Tanea Brooks <\/b>left the wrestling ring amid a lengthy and mysterious health battle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI want to say thank you for all of your prayers because, for those who know, it\u2019s been a two-year medical journey trying to find out what is wrong,\u201d Brooks said via Instagram in May 2026. \u201cFinally, our prayers have been answered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Brooks revealed that she was<span class=\"s1\"> diagnosed with \u201cterminal\u201d amyotrophic lateral sclerosis<\/span> (ALS), a neurodegenerative disorder that causes individuals to gradually lose control of their muscles and speech. There is currently no cure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThere is not a lot of research behind ALS, and we don\u2019t know how long I have,\u201d the pro wrestler stated. \u201cIt explains why I have trouble walking and talking [and] all my functions will soon decline. After five years of performing, Brooks took a step back in 2024 amid a series of symptoms of a then-unknown health issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI want to say thank you to <b>Tony Khan<\/b> and AEW for supporting me on this medical journey,\u201d Brooks said in a May 2026 video, referring to the AEW founder. \u201cIt has been a blessing that is unheard of and, from the bottom of my heart, thank you and thank you to all of you for your prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><b>Tanea Brooks Used to be an NFL Cheerleader<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Brooks danced for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders from 1998 to 2001.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWrestling moonsaults aren\u2019t that different than things I did with cheerleading,\u201d Brooks told <span class=\"s1\"><i>Huffington Post<\/i><\/span> in 2014 of making the leap from the DCC to the wrestling ring. \u201cThere are times I think, \u2018I did that in cheerleading on the ground, so maybe I can fly off the ropes.\u2019 When it\u2019s things you\u2019re passionate about and enjoy doing, you do want to be the best at it. You always want to be learning, growing, moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><b>Tanea Brooks Is Battling Cancer<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Brooks announced in November 2025 that was diagnosed with primary pulmonary lymphoma, a rare form of lung cancer, the year prior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAfter a year of not getting better, I decided to go to the Mayo Clinic \u2026 and they found that it was not cryptococcal pneumonia this whole time, and that it is primary pulmonary lymphoma,\u201d she said in a social media <span class=\"s1\">video<\/span>. \u201cTomorrow, I start rehab because along this journey, I picked up a little disorder called functional neurological disorder and it has taken my ability to walk. I now walk with a walker, and [it has affected] my ability to speak. It\u2019s a rehab hospital,\u201d she said in a February 2026 <span class=\"s1\">Instagram<\/span> video. \u201cI\u2019ve been trying a few different rehabs and just not getting great results while I\u2019m waiting for doctors to figure out what to do next \u2026 but meanwhile, while I\u2019m waiting, I was able to get into an in-patient rehab.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Brooks underwent occupational and speech therapy at the time.
