Former Dancing With the Stars<\/em> pro Cheryl Burke<\/strong> is weighing in on who she believes the show should \u2014 and shouldn\u2019t \u2014 cast in future seasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love to see more creators join the show,\u201d Burke, 42, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Friday, May 1, while attending Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa\u2019s Leading Hotels of the World accreditation celebration. \u201cI think that there\u2019s a new definition when it comes to celebrity. I think having people like mental health gurus come on. I would love to see Jay Shetty<\/strong> get jiggy with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI think it\u2019s important to mix it up. But they\u2019re doing great. Whatever they\u2019re doing, obviously it\u2019s working.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Burke, who left Dancing With the Stars<\/em> in November 2022 after 26 seasons, wants to see the show expand the breadth of its celebrity competitors, there is one group of people she hopes the hit reality series avoids casting \u2014 politicians.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think maybe it\u2019s probably best not to involve politics,\u201d she explained to Us<\/em>. \u201cThis is a show that\u2019s a feel good show, and right now I think it\u2019s just very touchy, right? That\u2019s all I want to say about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her tenure on the show, Burke was paired with Tom DeLay<\/strong>, a former congressman who represented Texas\u2019 22nd congressional district from 1985 to 2006. He also served as the House majority leader from 2003 to 2005.<\/p>\n

In fact, plenty of other former politicians have appeared on the program, including controversial former White House press secretary Sean Spicer<\/strong>, who served during President Donald Trump<\/strong>\u2019s first term, former Texas Governor Rick Perry<\/strong> and former Fox News host-turned-podcaster Tucker Carlson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fellow Dancing With the Stars<\/em> pro Val Chmerkovskiy<\/strong> shared a similar sentiment with Us<\/em>, explaining that he hopes \u201cless politicians\u201d will be cast in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things I admire about our show, I love being a part of the fact that in a world quite literally designed to split us all apart and create agony amongst people, we\u2019re a show that creates union and brings people together,\u201d Chmerkovskiy exclusively explained to Us<\/em> on April 25 while attending Jennie Garth<\/strong> and iHeartPodcast\u2019s \u201cI Choose Me\u201d live summit at the iHeartRadio Theatre in Burbank, California.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it\u2019s just a dance show, but it\u2019s way more than just a dance show,\u201d he added. \u201cDance is just a vehicle to bring people together \u2014 of all ages, all political sides. No one knows who\u2019s voting for who, and we\u2019re all just enjoying ourselves and enjoying two hours a week of just good family fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
