{"id":90254,"date":"2026-05-04T16:07:55","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T16:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diyhaven858.wasmer.app\/index.php\/north-korean-side-to-make-rare-trip-to-south-korea\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T16:07:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T16:07:55","slug":"north-korean-side-to-make-rare-trip-to-south-korea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diyhaven858.wasmer.app\/index.php\/north-korean-side-to-make-rare-trip-to-south-korea\/","title":{"rendered":"North Korean side to make rare trip to South Korea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A team of North Korean footballers will make a rare visit to South Korea later this month.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">North Korean side Naegohyang will cross the border to play Suwon in the Asian Women&#8217;s Champions League semi-final on 20 May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Pyongyang has sent a list of 27 players and 12 staff who will make the visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">South Korea&#8217;s Unification Ministry has confirmed the trip, which will be the first time athletes from the north have crossed the border since 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">North Korea sent athletes to South Korea for the Pyeongchang Winter \u200cOlympics that year, as they formed a unified ice hockey team for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The rare visit comes with South Korean \u2060President Lee Jae Myung seeking to improve \u200bstrained \u2060ties with North Korea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Ties have in recent years deteriorated, with North Korea labelling South Korea its &#8220;most hostile state&#8221; and saying it would no longer seek reunification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The two Koreas are technically still at war since they did not sign a peace treaty when the Korean War ended in 1953.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Naegohyang are playing in the Champions League for the first time, having beaten Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam 3-0 in the quarter final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The winner \u2060will face Melbourne City or Tokyo Verdy \u2060in the final, also to be played in Suwon, on 23 May.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a ><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A team of North Korean footballers will make a rare visit to South Korea later this month.
