CBS has gone through some surprising TV changes \u2014 but what caused Watson<\/em> and multiple other shows to come to an end?<\/p>\n

Watson<\/em>, which aired for two seasons, wrapped up on Sunday, May 3, with several story lines still left unaddressed. The decision to conclude Watson<\/em> came after DMV<\/em> was pulled after one season on the network.<\/p>\n

CBS originally announced a sweep of early renewals in January, with only Watson <\/em>and DMV<\/em> left in limbo. Deadline reported that Watson\u2019s future depended on the success of Marshals <\/em>and CIA<\/em>, which both scored quick renewals, while DMV was waiting on its fate as decisions about comedy pilots Eternally Yours <\/em>and The Tillbrooks<\/em> (formerly known as Regency<\/em>) were made.<\/p>\n

CBS ultimately renewed 12 dramas for its next season, including all 4 freshman shows: Marshals, CIA, Sheriff Country<\/em> and Boston Blue.<\/em> The network also previously picked up two new shows for 2026-27: Robert <\/strong>and Michelle King<\/strong>\u2019s Cupertino<\/em> and Matthew Gray Gubler<\/strong>\u2018s Einstein<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/em> hinted that DMV\u2019s<\/em> cancellation meant Eternally Yours <\/em>and The Tillbrooks<\/em> were expected to proceed beyond the pilot stage at CBS. Watson<\/em>, meanwhile, ultimately faced some obstacles after initially finding success. Once season 2 was delayed so it could be moved to a slot on Mondays after CIA<\/em>, Watson<\/em> saw a dip in viewership. DMV<\/em> had its own struggles when its delayed multiplatform ratings declined despite getting off to a strong start.<\/p>\n

Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle<\/strong>\u2018s Sherlock Holmes<\/em> stories, Watson (Morris Chestnut<\/strong>) took place six months after Moriarty (Randall Park<\/strong>) killed the legendary detective. Watson came to terms with the loss of his best friend and partner by resuming his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders.<\/p>\n

Season 1 focused on Watson\u2019s rivalry with Moriarty, but the next installment involved Sherlock Holmes (Robert Carlyle<\/strong>) \u2014 despite his character\u2019s offscreen death prior to the events of the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a procedural show. We have a procedural show with the serialized spine. So ultimately, we will have a case of the week each week that we\u2019re presented with,\u201d Chestnut previously told Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cWe have to diagnose and then solve them. But there are also going to be a lot of surprises and a lot of twists and turns that the audience may not expect.\u201d<\/p>\n

CBS announced its schedule on Wednesday, April 15, with viewers noticing some substantial changes. Ghosts, Matlock and NCIS: Sydney received a shakeup by having their premieres moved to 2027 for midseason. They will join the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
