{"id":91867,"date":"2026-05-06T23:34:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T23:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diyhaven858.wasmer.app\/index.php\/buc-ees-sues-another-company-this-time-a-georgia-convenience-store\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T23:34:39","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T23:34:39","slug":"buc-ees-sues-another-company-this-time-a-georgia-convenience-store","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diyhaven858.wasmer.app\/index.php\/buc-ees-sues-another-company-this-time-a-georgia-convenience-store\/","title":{"rendered":"Buc-ee&#8217;s sues another company, this time, a Georgia convenience store"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Buc-ee\u2019s, the Texas-based travel center chain known for its mall-sized stores, barbecue and beaver merchandise, is suing a small convenience store in Georgia for alleged brand infringement.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->In a trademark lawsuit filed on May 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Buc-ee\u2019s alleges that Teddy\u2019s Market, a convenience store with two locations in the state, copied both its mascot and branding strategies.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->According to court records obtained by USA TODAY, Buc-ee\u2019s says that Teddy\u2019s built its brand around a smiling cartoon animal, similar to its own beaver.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Buc-ee&#8217;s also alleged that Teddy\u2019s cartoon animal mascot, similar to their beaver, had white eye highlights, a black nose, a hint of pink tongue and lighter coloring around its mouth, set inside a red-accented geometric shape.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Apart from a similar look, Buc-ee\u2019s alleges that the two names are too similar.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->According to court records, &#8220;Buc-ee&#8217;s&#8221; and &#8220;Teddy&#8217;s&#8221; are two-syllable, six-letter possessives ending in an &#8220;eez&#8221; sound, something the gas station chain\u2019s lawyers alleged &#8220;is likely to cause (to the extent it has not already caused) confusion, mistake, and\/or deception among consumers in the relevant market as to the source, affiliation, and\/or origin of Teddy\u2019s goods and services.&#8221;<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"text article-heading-atom neo-font-heading-lg  yf-18d6y07\" id=\"\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->What is Buc-ees asking for?<!-- HTML_TAG_END --> <\/h2>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->According to the complaint, Buc-ee\u2019s is asking the court to force Teddy\u2019s to stop using its current branding, destroy any infringing materials and hand over profits made by the branding.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Apart from this, Buc-ee\u2019s is also asking Teddy\u2019s to pay three times the profits made in damages and for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to reject the four trademark applications the Georgia-based company made in May 2024.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Karan Ahuja, Teddy&#8217;s owner and operator, told CBS News Atlanta he disagrees with the allegations made in the lawsuit and declined further comment due to the pending litigation. According to its website, Mickey Mart, which has roughly 42 locations in Ohio, features a smiling cartoon moose within a red hexagon as its logo. In Buc-ee&#8217;s complaint, the chain argues that the animalistic logo is too similar to its own \u2013 a toothy beaver wearing a red ballcap inside a bright yellow circle. Both animals are facing right and display wide eyes and a smile, Buc-ee&#8217;s says in court documents.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"display: none\" data-testid=\"read-more\">\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->As of May 6, the case against Coles IP Holdings, LLC is still ongoing in the Northern District of Ohio, unlike the Buc-ee&#8217;s lawsuit against a Missouri-based coffee and food shop called Bar-cee&#8217;s for using a similar name and logo.
