Padma Lakshmi<\/strong><\/span> does not want Kristen Kish<\/span><\/strong> to pack her knives and leave Top Chef<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was rooting for Kristen. I\u2019m always rooting for her,\u201d Lakshmi, 55, exclusively shared with Us Weekly<\/i> while celebrating season 1 of CBS\u2019 America\u2019s Culinary Cup<\/i><\/span>. \u201cYou know, she feels like my little sister, and I couldn\u2019t be more proud of her. She\u2019s really blossomed in the role.\u201d<\/p>\n

When season 10 of Top Chef<\/i> aired in 2012, Kish, 42, wowed judges Tom Colicchio<\/strong>, Gail Simmons<\/strong> and Lakshmi as a contestant. In 2024, the winner of Bravo\u2019s reality show took over as host after Lakshmi exited to pursue other opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Kristen] brings a lot of empathy to the world, because she\u2019s been through the process, which is something neither Tom nor Gail nor I could ever know what that\u2019s like,\u201d Lakshmi said. \u201cI\u2019m proud of her. I think she\u2019s going to have a long career.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the best-selling author told Us<\/em> she doesn\u2019t keep up with new episodes, it\u2019s not because she isn\u2019t a fan of the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven when I was doing Top Chef<\/i>, I didn\u2019t watch it because I knew it happened,\u201d she explained. \u201cI look back on it fondly. Many people I love dearly are still on that show. That is a legacy I helped create. I\u2019m proud of that show. I\u2019m still rooting for that show.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, Lakshmi\u2019s focus is on celebrating a successful first season of America\u2019s Culinary Cup<\/i>. CBS\u2019 new hit stars 16 of the country\u2019s most elite chefs competing in the ultimate culinary arena.<\/p>\n

Although Lakshmi thought she was done with the TV genre, the idea of creating a new kind of food competition series ultimately whet her appetite.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s room for all of us. I just wanted to do something different and see what I could do when I created it from scratch myself,\u201d she dished. \u201cI\u2019m very proud of what we\u2019ve achieved and how much we\u2019ve been able to showcase America\u2019s really beautiful and diverse food.\u201d<\/p>\n
