\n\t\u201cOne of the very first things that Tim [Burton] said when we started was \u2018don\u2019t make this funny\u2019,\u201d\u00a0Wednesday\u00a0<\/em>composer Chris Bacon said about the musical direction he got from the series\u2019 Oscar-nominated director and executive producer.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a funny show, but Tim Burton, he was very serious: \u2018Do not play funny music.\u2019 Play them serious,\u201d Bacon added during a panel for the show at Deadline\u2019s Sound & Screen Television awards-season concert event. \u201cThe same way Jenna Ortega plays it. That makes it funnier if it\u2019s darker, heavier, more serious. Keep it grounded in that macabre fantasy world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Season 2, Ortega\u2019s Wednesday encounters plenty: she contends with a corrupt principal in Steve Buscemi\u2019s Principal Dort, battles her monstrous boyfriend, bonds with mother Morticia, and even dies and rises again.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSeason 2 was a chance to take what we started in Season 1 and create this language that was quirky but also not too quirky that felt like it could have existed at any time,\u201d says Bacon.<\/p>\n

\n\tWednesday\u00a0<\/em>is a contemporary show, \u201cbut the Addams Family doesn\u2019t exist in time,\u201d added the composer.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith moments such as a monster mom finding her monster son, \u201cit was chance to do more and be unabashedly thematic,\u201d said Bacon, who went to town with a sweeping cinematic score accentuated by French horns when Enid (Emma Myers) turns into a werewolf to save Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s not the Addams Family without the harpsicord, which was used in the original theme of the 1964 TV series. But how does Bacon regulate the instrument he quips as one \u201cI hated my entire life\u201d?\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s part of their sound and it\u2019s part of what keeps the Addams Family timeless,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s a great sound to throw in to remind us that we\u2019re there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSeason 3 of\u00a0Wednesday<\/em>\u00a0began production in Ireland\u00a0at the end of February, adding Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan,\u00a0<\/strong>Kennedy Moyer and\u00a0Winona Ryder to the cast. A recent photo that was dropped shows the action heading to Paris.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn regards to teasing what Season 3\u2019s score might sound like, Bacon simply said, \u201cMusic is being made.\u201d<\/p>\n
