One week after Shilo Sanders<\/strong> made headlines by telling a female reporter to \u201cgo make a sandwich,\u201d the former pro football player is back in the news \u2013 this time due to a pending bankruptcy case.<\/p>\n

According to a USA Today<\/em> report published on Wednesday, May 6, Sanders, 26, allegedly owes $11 million in debt. The eight-figure sum comes from a 2015 incident when Sanders was accused of assaulting a former security guard at his high school, causing \u201cserious injury.\u201d The guard, John Darjean<\/strong>, sued Sanders and his parents, who were dropped from the case in 2019. (Shilo is the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders<\/strong> and his ex-wife, Pilar Biggers-Sanders<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

Darjean won an $11.89 million default judgment against Shilo in 2022 when Shilo did not show up for the trial. Then a student-athlete at Jackson State University, Shilo filed for bankruptcy in an effort to keep Darjean from collecting. Darjean, however, is arguing that because the debt stems from alleged \u201cwillful and malicious injury,\u201d it should not be protected from a bankruptcy filing.<\/p>\n

Shilo, for his part, has claimed that Darjean was the aggressor and that he acted in self-defense.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA devoted Shedeur Sanders fan filed a $100 million lawsuit against the NFL following the quarterback\u2019s low draft selection. After Shedeur, 23, was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the NFL draft\u2019s fifth round on April 26, the fan claimed he suffered \u201cimmediate frustration\u201d followed by \u201cemotional distress and trauma \u2026 as a fan and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Shilo\u2019s attorney is now looking to limit the scope of the bankruptcy trial strictly to the Darjean judgment and not expand to any other facet of Shilo\u2019s life, according to documents viewed by USA Today<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Shilo\u2019s trial is set to begin on August 31.<\/p>\n

The news comes after Shilo made waves for telling the Cleveland Plain-Dealer<\/em>\u2019s Mary Kay Cabot<\/strong> to \u201cgo make a sandwich\u201d after she suggested Deshaun Watson<\/strong> has the inside track to winning the Cleveland Browns\u2019 starting quarterback job over his brother, Shedeur Sanders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, let me just say about that, that I really do believe that I\u2019ve been an inspiration for lots of women and young girls to know that you can go out there and do a good job in a man\u2019s world and take on all of that that comes with that,\u201d Cabot, 64, said in response during an April 30 appearance on 92.3 The Fan.<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cAnd I know that there are so many women who have joined the football world, especially because of things I\u2019ve been able to do over the years, and I\u2019m happy about that, and I know that will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n
