President Donald Trump<\/strong> says he is planning to boycott Super Bowl LX while voicing his dislike for the big game\u2019s performers, Bad Bunny<\/strong> and the rock group Green Day, led by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m anti-them,\u201d Trump, 79, told The New York Post<\/em> of his Super Bowl 2026 plans in an interview published on Friday, January 23. \u201cI think it\u2019s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commander-in-chief also claimed that Super Bowl 60, set for 6:30 pm EST on Sunday, February 8, at Levi\u2019s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, is \u201cjust too far away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl when he appeared in person to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59. (The Eagles walked away victorious in a 40-22 win at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPresident Donald Trump reacted to Bad Bunny being named next year\u2019s Super Bowl halftime performer \u2014 before turning his attention to another point of contention with the NFL. Trump, 79, appeared on Newsmax\u2019s Greg Kelly Reports on Monday, October 6, where he was asked about a potential \u201cboycott\u201d of the league after the Puerto Rican [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The president will sit out this year, however, amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Bad Bunny\u2019s halftime performance. Some conservative pundits, influencers and Republican lawmakers criticized the NFL\u2019s decision to have the Puerto Rican native, real name Benito Antonio Mart\u00ednez Ocasio, perform the converted halftime show, arguing it was somehow \u201cun-American.\u201d (Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States and Bad Bunny is a legal U.S. citizen.)<\/p>\n

In September 2025, former race car driver Danica Patrick<\/strong> complained via X that performing \u201cno songs in English should not be allowed at one of America\u2019s highest rated television events of the year,\u201d before later calling for an alternate halftime show to be performed in English.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have any problem with someone performing at halftime that is not from the United States, although Bad Bunny is technically a citizen because he was born in Puerto Rico,\u201d Patrick, 43, said on the \u201cWar Room\u201d podcast at the time. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t necessarily born in America. I don\u2019t care where you\u2019re actually born. What I care about is that I can sing along to the music. His music is almost nothing in English.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others took issue with the singer\u2019s criticism of the Trump administration\u2019s ongoing immigration policy, including the deployment of ICE officers in various cities which, to date, has resulted in the death of two U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n

In October 2025, Bad Bunny publicly addressed the backlash while hosting Saturday Night Live<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou may not know this but I\u2019m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show,\u201d Bad Bunny said at the time, eliciting an excited response from the Studio 8H audience. \u201cI\u2019m very happy and I think everyone is very happy about it! Even Fox News\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
