Multiple officials were heard calling out for a doctor as others helped Smotherman back to a seated position.<\/p>\n A doctor checked Smotherman\u2019s vitals on stage and encouraged him to drink fluids before the fighter was assisted to his feet. When Smotherman seemed groggy and visibly wobbled on stage again, two officials physically lifted him up and carried him backstage.<\/p>\n Smotherman seemed to be in much better spirits a few hours later. In his Instagram video, he tried to downplay theories that his collapse may have been triggered by extreme weight cutting leading up to Saturday\u2019s bantamweight fight.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople online say it was \u2018crazy weight cuts\u2019 [for the fight], stuff like that,\u201d he acknowledged. \u201cI genuinely didn\u2019t cut very much weight for this fight. I came in pretty low but even [through] the course of this week, I haven\u2019t cut much weight.\u201d<\/p>\n The MMA fighter confessed, \u201cI\u2019m not entirely sure what happened and I have some more tests and stuff to take in the coming weeks to get to the bottom of it. For all the people saying I must have done a crazy [weight] cut or something, I cut very, very little weight.\u201d<\/p>\n Smotherman predicted that he would \u201chopefully be back soon\u201d because he was feeling \u201ccompletely OK.\u201d He then apologized to his scheduled opponent, Ricky Turcios<\/strong>, for the cancellation of their fight at UFC 324.<\/p>\n Fellow MMA fighter Kody Steele<\/strong> replied to Smotherman\u2019s health update with some encouragement, writing, \u201cI\u2019m glad you\u2019re okay brother.\u201d<\/p>\n UFC veteran Matt Schnell<\/strong> praised Smotherman as a \u201cchamp\u201d while mixed martial artist Alex Perez<\/strong> shared a \u201cprayer hands emoji\u201d in the comments.<\/p>\n \u201cHoping you heal good, cant wait to see you back out there,\u201d a fan wrote to Smotherman, with another chiming in, \u201cI thought you wouldn\u2019t get up, bro, but you showed your character.\u201d<\/p>\n UFC has yet to clarify whether the Smotherman-Turcios match will be rescheduled for a later date.<\/p>\n
