Emoji<\/span><\/span> fans, rejoice! In October, the Unicode Consortium proposed nine new emoji as part of the upcoming Unicode 18.0. One of the proposed emoji is a pickle, which I think could replace the eggplant as the go-to emoji for male anatomy.<\/p>\n

Am I being childish or prophetic? We’ll have to wait a while to find out. The Unicode Consortium still needs to approve these proposed emoji, and the organization usually approves emoji in September.<\/p>\n

Here are the nine new emoji you could see on your device in 2027.<\/p>\n

  • A smiley face with squinting eyes.<\/li>\n
  • A leftward thumb sign gesture.<\/li>\n
  • A rightward thumb sign gesture.<\/li>\n
  • A monarch butterfly.<\/li>\n
  • A pickle.<\/li>\n
  • A lighthouse.<\/li>\n
  • A meteor.<\/li>\n
  • An eraser.<\/li>\n
  • A net with a handle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Once an emoji is approved, it’s up to companies like Apple and Samsung to design and implement their own versions of those emoji. Emoji are then usually added to Apple and Android devices via software updates the year following their approval. So if these emoji are approved, you likely won’t see them until 2027. I’m still waiting for the orca and sasquatch emoji<\/span><\/span> to show up on my phone after being approved in 2024.<\/p>\n

    There’s also a chance that one or more of these emoji aren’t approved by the Unicode Consortium. In 2025, the apple core emoji<\/span><\/span> was withdrawn from consideration before it could be approved.\u00a0<\/p>\n
