Amazon Is Finally Talking About A U.S. Version Of ‘Last One Laughing’

LOL: Last One Laughing is an Amazon-owned format that has been remade in over 25 countries, but never the United States.

That might be changing soon.

Amazon’s Head of Nonfiction Series Jenn Levy said that the number one question she gets asked since she took the job earlier this year is when will there be a U.S. version of that show.

“We’re talking about,” she admitted at Deadline’s Reality TV Summit.

The format started in Japan as Documental and has been remade in Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Russian, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey and the UK.

The UK version has been a particular hit. Hosted by Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty, it features comedians including Bob Mortimer, Richard Ayoade, Rob Beckett, Lou Sanders, Harriet Kemsley, Daisy May Cooper, Judi Love, Joe Wilkinson, Joe Lycett and Sara Pascoe in season one. In season two, Mortimer returned alongside David Mitchell, Sam Campbell, Mel Giedroyc, Romesh Ranganathan, Diane Morgan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Alan Carr and Gbemisola Ikumelo.

LOL: Last One Laughing sees ten comics spend the day together without so much as cracking a smile if possible. Over the course of the series, they use every ounce of their comedic talent to try and break their opponents without cracking up.
