Cannes Title ‘Six Months In A Pink & Blue Building’ Sells To France

EXCLUSIVE: Epicentre Films has acquired French rights to Mexican director Bruno Santamaría Razo’s Six months in a Pink and Blue Building ahead of its world premiere in Cannes Critics’ Week.

The deal was secured by Paris-based Luxbox which is handling international sales.

Set in Mexico City in the early 90s, the film follows the young protagonist Bruno.

As he turns 11, his growing feelings for his best friend Vladimir clash with the sudden announcement that his father has HIV. Like in salsa songs, his family tries to sing and dance their pain away. Thirty years later, Bruno films and reimagine the memory of what he could not quite perceive as a child.

The film, which is Santamaría Razo’s features directorial debut, won four awards at Films In Progress Cinélatino Toulouse before being selected to compete at Cannes Critics’ Week.

“We immediately felt this was a natural fit for Épicentre Films,” said Corentin Sénéchal, Director of Distribution at Epicentre Films, describing the work as “a film of great sensitivity and precision, where childhood is rediscovered through the lens of adulthood.”

The company’s slate includes recent distribution slate includes Ungrateful Beings by Olmo Omerzu, Justa by Teresa Villaverde and Tereza Nvotová’s upcoming drama Father.

Six Months In A Pink & Blue Building is produced by Mexico’s Ojo de Vaca Productora (Mexico) in coproduction with Desvia Films (Brazil) and Snowglobe (Denmark).

Epicentre first connected with the film when it was presented as a work in progress at Cinelatino Toulouse.

“Their enthusiasm and expertise in queer cinema, as well as their experience distributing Latin American films—such as recently A Poet—make them a perfect match for a film like Six Months in a Pink and Blue Building,” said Santamaria Razo.

Epicentre has set a September 1 release.
