It’s not every day that your schedule takes you from the Met Gala steps to an early morning flight back to Los Angeles—but for Adir Abergel, that’s just another Monday.
The celebrity hairstylist, who handled hair for both Nicole Kidman and her daughter Sunday Rose at last night’s big event, started his day quietly. “I woke up around 6 a.m., took a bath and ordered a latte,” he says. A calm before what would become one of the biggest days of the year.
His team arrived early to prep and color extensions, and by 9 a.m. Abergel was already with his first client. Once that look was complete, he left an assistant behind and kept moving—a seamless handoff that speaks to the infrastructure he’s built around himself.
At 11 a.m., he sat down for an on-camera interview with Vogue before diving into the main event: four-and-a-half hours with Kidman and Sunday Rose.
The vision for the looks was deeply intentional. Inspired by the striking lines and reflective shine of Kidman’s dress, Abergel crafted hairstyles that echoed the same sense of light and movement— channeling what he calls an “effortless French-girl je ne sais quoi that balanced polish” with ease. “For Nicole and Sunday’s first Met Gala together, I wanted to create a meaningful connection for this special moment,” he shares. “Hair became a subtle, yet beautiful, unifying thread, tying their looks together through a shared expression of modern elegance.”
One detail he’s particularly proud of: the bangs. “I love how they were shaped,” he says. “I used the Shark Beauty FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System ($349) to work with air instead of tension, creating that effortless sweep, polished and luminous.” The full process began on wet, towel-dried hair, with Abergel first applying Virtue Damage Reverse Serum ($60) and a few pumps of Virtue Healing Oil ($46) to protect and prep before the blowout.
He then used the Shark Beauty FlexStyle to rough-dry, before refining the shape so the hair fell naturally into place. The FlexStyle’s Styling Concentrator attachment took care of the bangs, creating that perfect sweep with just the right amount of shine. To finish, he warmed a few drops of Virtue Healing Oil between his hands, gently tilted Kidman’s head and smoothed it through her long, golden locks for a final veil of luster.
“What matters most to me is holding space for the women I work with, and making sure they feel confident and truly themselves,” Abergel shares. The mood in the room reflected that intention. “We listened to upbeat Motown while getting ready,” he adds—soulful, energizing and just the right soundtrack for a Met Gala moment.
After joining Kidman and Sunday Rose in the Sprinter van to the Met, Abergel’s day was far from over. Once Kidman completed the carpet and her hosting duties, he slipped inside to give her look a second life, transforming her hair into a low ponytail for the evening ahead.
He wrapped around 9 p.m., returned to his hotel, ordered dinner and immediately started packing before going to bed. A 6 a.m. flight to Los Angeles was waiting, where he headed straight to set to finish filming with Charlize Theron.
“I’ve built my career on stamina, and my passion for what I do keeps me going, even on days like this,” he says. “I’m lucky to have an incredible team that supports me and helps execute each vision—and I work with the best products and tools to keep evolving and reinventing every look.”
