Gird your loins, because Miranda Priestley is officially back in theaters with the sequel to 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada.
In theaters Friday, fans of the original have shared the first reactions to The Devil Wears Prada 2 on social media,
“Just finished The Devil Wears Prada 2 and CINEMA IS ALIVE AND WELL,” one fan wrote on X.
“#TheDevilWearsPrada2 is the perfect summer movie. Where the original seduced us with wide-eyed ambition, this sequel arrives fully self-possessed — sharper, wiser, and draped in the kind of confidence that cannot be bought, only earned,” wrote another on X. “Meryl, Anne, and Emily are a phenomenal, unmatched trio, and Tucci, as ever, is a masterclass in scene-stealing grace. It is SO good to be back in this world!”
Applauding its “themes of a dying media landscape,” someone else wrote, “The skeptic in me was so ready to hate The Devil Wears Prada 2. The first 1 holds such a special place in my heart, that I was adamant we didn’t need a legacy sequel. But this movie did the unthinkable… it proved me wrong. This is no soulless cash-in. It actually justifies its existence and surpassed my expectations.”
Comparing it to the original, another person called the sequel a “more poignant piece on modern journalism and the folks doing their best to uphold the ethical values of the industry.”
Meanwhile, one fan admitted of the film, “Not a classic like the first, but the cast is so good that it’s still fun.”
In addition to Meryl Streep’s Runway editor Miranda Priestley, The Devil Wears Prada 2 sees the fashionable return of Anne Hathaway’s Andi, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling.
Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will also reprise their roles from the original 2006 David Frankel-helmed film, with Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Brammall, Conrad Ricamora and Lady Gaga also joining the cast.
