Johnny Massaro, Rodrigo Santoro Join Film Of Coelho’s ‘The Pilgrimage’

Johnny Massaro and Rodrigo Santoro will star in Vicente Amorim’s adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s ‘The Pilgrimage’. Cameras are now rolling on the Netflix film.

We broke the news this one was happening back in mid-2024 and the shoot is now underway in Spain.

Santoro starred in the 300 movies, HBO’s Westworld and Netflix’s The Son of a Thousand Men. Fellow Brazilian actor Massaro is also in the latter film. His other credits include God Save The King.

Massaro plays Paulo, a man on a pilgrimage through the mountains, forests and fields of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. Guided by the enigmatic Petrus (Santoro), he undergoes a series of trials that transform his search for self-knowledge into an adventure that takes in mysterious encounters and invisible forces. The journey tests the physical and spiritual limits of both men.

As production started in earnest, the team behind the film said their film will blend the spirit of a road movie with the magical language characteristic of Coelho’s work.

The bestselling book upon which the film is based has been translated into over 70 languages. Amorim (Senna) helms the movie and is also co-screenwriter with Luiso Berdejo and Gustavo Bragança. Gullane, Fabiano Gullane and Miguel Ángel Faura produce.

Netflix also shared other casting info as the shoot commenced.
