Cole, who is charged with numerous child abuse and sex crime felonies involving his stepson and another minor child, was hospitalized on Jan. 12 after his first court hearing. Prosecutors say he tried to take his own life after returning to his jail cell.

Since then, he has been on life support. In a court filing on Jan. 16, District Attorney Jason Hicks wrote that doctors have said Cole has “suffered brain death and will never recover.”

“(Life) preserving measures will cease in the coming hours and (Cole) will then be pronounced dead,” the filing states.

Hicks’ filing allows the Caddo County Sheriff’s Office to remove the 24-hour-a-day guard at the hospital unless he recovers. The court accepted the request.
