There’s nothing like a brand-new hair cut to signify a new chapter or kickstart a new season, and Jessica Chastain just got a head start on spring with her fresh chop.
The Oscar winner debuted her cut at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony event on April 18, walking the red carpet sans her signature long, flowing red waves. In their place was a chin-length, blunt-cut bob courtesy hairstylist Renato Campora, who documented the process on Instagram if you want to see the cut in progress. Prior to the event, Chastain’s hair fell to about mid-back, but now it just grazes her jawline. Campora styled it straight with a slight bend to the ends, parting it deeply to one side with a portion of hair brushed slightly over one eye.

This is a big change for Chastain, who has had long hair for a long time. She didn’t share why she decided to go short, but sometimes you just get the urge to grab the scissors or call your hairstylist and chop it all off. Why not? Chastain’s new blunt-cut bob feels like the perfect cut for the spring and summer, leaving lots of neck real estate bare so you can feel the warm spring breeze across your skin and show off all those cute sundresses and floral-print tops. And as we know, the super-short blunt bob has been having a moment in the thanks it part to Leslie Bibb’s viral White Lotus chop. It also looks like the actor has refreshed her red, swapping her lighter roots for a rich, vibrant copper.
