Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has raised concerns that Boubacar Kamara could spend a sustained spell on the sidelines.

Emery, talking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Everton’s trip to Villa Park, stated Kamara — who sustained a knee injury in the opening minutes of the FA Cup victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday — will undergo further tests in the coming days, having been assessed by doctors.

“Kamara is out, his knee,” said Emery. “We are checking him and he’s visiting some doctors. We are going to know about him in a few days but of course not available and maybe for a long time. Hopefully not so so long time but we are checking him.”

Villa had previously stated that the expectation was that the France international will miss between two to three weeks, but a prolonged absence would mean Emery would be without a key midfielder for a crucial run of fixtures.

Kamara’s injury has comes at time with Villa lacking depth in midfield. Amadou Onana remains out while Ross Barkley is unavailable for a couple more weeks with a knee issue.

Elsewhere, Emery said he will make a late call on Emiliano Martinez’s fitness after Villa’s final training session on Saturday before Everton’s visit.

The Argentina international came off in the goalless draw against Crystal Palace last week at half-time having experienced calf pain and was replaced by Marco Bizot. Villa sit third in the Premier League, ten points clear of both fourth-placed Liverpool and fifth-placed Brentford.
