Juventus saw a loan enquiry for Everton striker Beto rejected by the Premier League club last week.
Everton were not open to losing the 28-year-old, who scored a stoppage-time equaliser for David Moyes’ side in Saturday’s draw at Brighton & Hove Albion. That was the fourth goal of the season for Beto, who is the only recognised senior striker in Everton’s squad alongside Thierno Barry.
Everton had concern over ability to source an adequate replacement before Monday’s transfer deadline and it would have taken a considerable bid for the club to consider sanctioning any move.
Juventus have been in the market for a striker in this transfer window and previously explored the availability of Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jorgen Strand Larsen, of Wolverhampton Wanderers, before enquiring on Beto.
The two clubs had informal dialogue over Juventus winger Edon Zhegrova — the 26-year-old Kosovo international who joined Juve from Lille last summer but has started just once thie term — but talks did not develop.
Everton are pursuing a loan with option move for Chelsea’s Tyrique George. The Athletic first reported interest in the 19-year-old on Friday.
