In this video from the Macula Society meeting, Dilsher S. Dhoot, MD, FASRS, of California Retina Consultants, discusses 5-year data on pegcetacoplan for geographic atrophy secondary to age-related macular degeneration.

The results showed the long-term efficacy of continuous Syfovre (pegcetacoplan injection, Apellis) treatment in patients with GA and the benefits of earlier treatment vs. delayed treatment, according to a study abstract.

“We see [that] earlier treatment initiation preserved two times [the amount] of retinal tissue vs. delayed treatment,” Dhoot told Healio. “We see that pegcetacoplan treatment saved 1.5 years of disease progression.”

Dhoot also discussed the safety profile of pegcetacoplan.
